Worship

We invite you to attend Sunday worship services and the Christian Education forum.

Beginning September 30, 2007, Trinity offers a "combined" worship service each Sunday morning. The Morning Prayer segment begins in a traditional setting with hymns and liturgy from the Lutheran Book of Worship and music by the Trinity choir with pipe organ accompaniment. After approximately 30 minutes, the service transitions to the Community Worship segment that includes scripture reading, the sermon, and Holy Communion. After communion worshippers may exit or remain for a contemporary praise experience with individual prayer and music provided by our Praise Team with guitar, drum, and keyboard accompaniment. Christian Education for children and adults of all ages is provided after the worship services.

There is also a special Prayer and Praise service on Friday evenings. During the seasons of Advent and Lent, we have a soup supper each Wednesday evening services, in addition to worship services on many traditional church holidays.

(See the Calendar page or phone 602-943-3311 for the current schedule).

Worship services at Trinity are shaped by the following characteristics:

Traditional – Trinity’s traditional liturgical worship service includes two biblical lessons, a psalm, the gospel reading, and Holy Communion each Sunday. The sermon is generally based on the gospel reading but may be based on a lesson or a current significant issue. Holy Communion is provided every week.

Unique – At various times, Trinity has blended unique music, dramatic readings, dance, and the visual arts into liturgical services. Our high school youth have performed an inspiring and emotional mime during Palm Sunday worship services.

Lay Involvement – Many lay people assist the pastor during the worship service. An assisting minister writes the prayers of the church, reads the first lesson, and assists with communion distribution. Crucifers, lectors, communion assistants, candle-lighters, ushers, and altar guild members all participate in the service.

Sanctuary - Trinity’s sanctuary contains traditional pews, altar, pulpit, pipe organ, and grand piano. The unique icon altar cross was designed, painted, and constructed by two members of the congregation. (See "The Cross" on this web site). Our processional cross, altar clothes, and communion-ware were all made by local craftsmen.

Music Program - Trinity has an exceptional music program. The adult choir averages 24 members and performs at the Sunday "traditional" service at 8:30 am. The hand bell choir averages eight ringers, plays four and a half octaves of bells, and provides special music throughout the year. Besides choosing the music and directing the choir, Trinity’s Music Director often serves as cantor and accompanist.

Creativity – Trinity is fortunate to have many creative and talented people who contribute to our worship services. A member of the congregation has written a full liturgy and other members have written, arranged, and performed many original music pieces. Members of our congregation include professional musicians, artists and many talented singers.

Holy Communion:
Communion is celebrated at worship each Sunday. The Lord welcomes all baptized and repentant Christians to the altar. The bread and wine in this sacrament are Christ's body and blood, a true sign of his presence with us. When we eat and drink we receive the grace of mercy of God through faith.
