Our Father, we pray for the homeless people and those who have fallen on hard times, especially during this time of extreme hot weather. Help us to do what we can to make life better for those less fortunate than ourselves. We ask these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Health Talks

Therapeutic Touch (TT)
A complementary energy-based nursing intervention developed in the 1970s by Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN. It involves a nurse moving their hands over a patient's body to assess and balance energy fields, with the goal of promoting relaxation, comfort, and natural self-healing. Parish Nurse, Laurie Schulz, has completed a training course and has been practicing on a few people. If you are interested in a TT session, email me for an appointment at Laurie.schulz54 @ gmail.com. I will be in the nurse’s office on Mondays after 11am and on Thursday mornings. I could also possibly work with someone after Sunday School at 12pm or so. Sessions takes about 20 minutes. On request, I can also check your BP, HR, and blood glucose.

Women's Book Study
Women’s Book Study will next meet for dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse at MetroCenter on Tuesday September 29th at 5pm. Our next book will be The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick. Our first discussion of this book will be on Tuesday November 3rd at 7pm. We will cover about half of the study guide questions that evening. If you have questions, please see Noreen Baldwin.

Adult Sunday School
Adult Sunday School will continue with the Andy Griffith Bible Study. Season 6 of The Chosen will be available in late September for select churches before it is available on Amazon. It follows the Passion of our Lord from the perspective of his chosen disciples.

The Good Samaritan Fund provides us with the recourses to help those in need. The “fishbowl” is on the table behind the last pew next to the offering plate.

Trinity is a colorful community of faith located in the Sunnyslope area of Phoenix. The congregation is a member of the Grand Canyon Synod, part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Pastor Guy Ilunga Biography
I am originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo (ex Zaire), where I was born in 1958, I am the second child of nine children. I have been married to Yvonne Ilunga for 34 years and we have four children and six grandchildren. I went to elementary and high school in Kinshasa/ DR Congo (ex Zaire) where I graduated in 1982. The same year I enrolled at University of Kinshasa in faculty of economics from 1982-1985 and from 1986-1989 I was trained as a journalist at a French association of journalist in Kinshasa. When I came to the U.S. I went to North Carolina college of Theology where I graduated with a Master of Theology degree in 2011. From 2017-2019 I completed a Diakonia program which is a growing in Faith program in Phoenix Arizona. From 2021-2024 I went to Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary where I graduated from the TEEM program. From 2024-2026 I completed my internship at Trinity Lutheran Church where I presently serve as a pastor.
My first job in the DRC was with the national company of electricity administrative in the accounting department in 1986 and after I completed My journalism training in 1989, I worked as a journalist at an independent weekly newspaper called “Le Lushois” and a magazine “Christian Union” through which I fought for justice against the dictatorial regime of that time. In 1992 I fled to Zambia under U.N.C.H.R protection with my family to avoid the continued persecutions. In 1994, I was resettled in in the U.S./ Arizona, where I worked from 1994-1999 with Northwest corporation/ ATI Title. After the merging of Northwest and Wells Fargo I was laid off and worked with the superior court of Arizona from 1999-2000 as clerk of court and wage assignment specialist then worked successively with the Assessor’s title examiner 2000-2001. From 2001 to 2005 I worked with NCO financial system as a collection specialist. From that year I could not work anymore due to health issues.
I am a polyglot and fluent in French, English, Swahili, Lingala.

Trinity Lutheran Church was incorporated on November 10th, 1948 and looks forward to praising God for many more years. While the good news of Jesus may stay the same, Trinity continues to grow, and we are committed to trusting God and deepening relationships with Him. The Nurses’ Corner
How can I be of service to Trinity?
Our Parish Nurse is offering support to the Trinity community by gathering input through a Welcome Desk and short survey, visiting homebound or hospitalized members, and being available during fellowship to check blood pressure or answer general health questions (without diagnosing or providing medical advice).She plans to hold office hours on Mondays after 11 a.m. ladies’ coffee and Thursday mornings when possible, and can be contacted at the church for meetings or calls. Health handouts and online resources will be shared through the Nurse’s Corner.If there is interest, she hopes to organize workshops or support groups on topics like caregiving, Alzheimer’s/dementia, heart disease, and diabetes, offer CPR classes, and recruit volunteers for practice related to a therapeutic touch course she will take in the spring.Church Council
